that's how we do it
haan i'm still complaining ... ppl blame all the problems of india on 'the system'. as if there's an infrastructure of inanimate objects that create hurdles and problems, mess up anything good that is ever created or set up, juice out ppl's energies and creativity, leaving everything impossible to change or improve. its worse because ppl refuse to realize that they are the system. they sustain it proudly, they keep it oiled and functioning, systematically. "madam, aise hi hota hai". that one line I so hate. earlier I'd let it pass. now i counter it with "but aise to nahi hona chahiye, na?" that leaves them either repeating their line, or speechless. no they don't consider the contradiction, they don't consider a change. and that's the brick that must be broken. a guy who comes to install a water purifier should ensure that pure water is coming out of it for the consumer. but no. "madam, isko aadhe ghante ke baad off kar dena, fir isme jitna pani hai use phenk dena kyunki usme carbon hoga, uske baad aap pani pe sakte hain". but why won't he do the necessary? because "madam, aise hi hota hai". we got a new gas stove. i was admiring its nice sleek top hoping my cook would find it less inconvenient to keep this clean. it turns out to be a glass top. still admiring, right? cos I had glass stove top there too. things have gotten better here. appreciate that. but no, wait, there's a warning on the top to not put hot stuff on it. huh what? its a stove top. the most obvious thing a person would do after removing their cooking off the fire is to want to take it off the heat - put it on the stove top right next to it. but of course, anything that's the most obvious will be necessarily ignored by those who designed it. just like everything else in this country. "madam, aise hi hota hai". on other matters, have you ever heard anyone rave about the few things that are in fact so much better in delhi now than they used to be - for example, that the city water supply gives potable water? of course not. cos they are happily living brainwashed with their ROs, wasting precious water. don't believe me? test it for yourself. i tested for ecoli bacteria and got a negative result, plus my TDS meter gave a reading of 100 on my supply water (anything less than 300 is excellent water), and 10 on my RO water output. yes, i have RO too. but i'm not happy about it. you choose your battles in a married co-habitation life. kinda in exchange, i have no 'bai' ringing my bell every morning and dirtying my home more than cleaning it. haan i can be stubborn too. i have a robot instead. that is matter for another discussion. those who live in india cannot understand why i wouldn't want as many as possible ppl working to keep my home livable for me. and those who have never lived in india don't understand why i would not want to hire ppl in a country that has so many poor ppl willing to work for me.
